Faceted Shapes
2015-
In the interplay between culture and nature, my resent work are inspired by geological structures and crystal formations, but also by architecture, the edged rendering of a computer drawing or folded paper shapes. Most of the faceted shapes seems to have a grain of coincidence or unplanned development, reminding you of crystal formations growing in irregular clusters. The pieces are hand-modeled stoneware glazed with slip-glaze, which gives the works a stone-like, dry surface with a rich texture. Some of my works have expressive surfaces, with relief or fluted structures but most of them are simply just trying to express the inherent character and textual freshness of the clay.

Balustre Series
2008–2012
Balustre series On my daily bicycle trips through Copenhagen, I pass many fine old buildings. Many of them are decorated with characteristic banisters with balusters on the facades. Like pots, they are wheel-turned objects. The repetitive shapes of the baluster banisters resemble ornaments. The shapes and the spaces in-between the balusters are often very nice, and have inspired me to make the Baluster series. In this series of vases, the different characteristics of the shapes and the shapes between the vases have a graphic effect as if they were three-dimensional letters in a word. Working with series of vases or vessels I like the color to underline the differences between the shapes, and at the same time I am trying to create an interplay between the colors which make them emerge as a whole. The matte stone-like appearance of the surface has been pared down to a minimum, yet the attributes of the material and the technique is expressed. But most importantly, the glazing emphasizes the shape to give the impression of merging with the clay, rather than having been put on top of the clay.
